Light snow flurries overnight marked the storm's arrival, but heavier snowfall is expected during the morning commute. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several counties, including Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will. The advisory will be in effect from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m., with snow expected to hit Chicago around 8 a.m.
According to ABC7 AccuWeather Meteorologist Tracy Butler, snowfall will continue until about 2 p.m., when it is likely to transition to rain. Accumulations of 1–3 inches will mainly affect grassy surfaces, but roads may become slushy and challenging for drivers.
During the storm's peak, snowfall rates could reach up to one inch per hour, coupled with strengthening winds as the afternoon progresses. These conditions may reduce visibility and make travel more treacherous.
The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation has been proactive, deploying salt spreaders overnight to keep major roads and Lake Shore Drive as clear as possible. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, plan for additional travel time, and leave extra space between vehicles to ensure safety.
